Philanthropy, at its core, is rooted in power. Despite good intentions, philanthropy often reinforces a top-down structure that can ignore our communities' true needs and voices. Like other institutions, this moment of national discussion and reckoning on racial injustice has unearthed the inequitable structures philanthropy often upholds and is being called on to undergo reform.
